This study identified the fat that from 2014 to 2016, the rollout of chickenpox vaccination seemed to drive an increase in herpes zoster at the same time it coincided with a drop in chickenpox (varicella)

This review found that when universal chickenpox vaccination was rolled out, the rates of herpes zoster increased by 1.54 times. Suggests that a less-tested immune system opened the door to herpes infection.
