The association between acute transverse myelitis and COVID-19 vaccination in Korea: Self-controlled case series study

12/30/2024The study found a significant increase (two to threefold) in the risk of acute transverse myelitis (ATM) associated with COVID-19 vaccinations within 1-42 days compared to the pre-vaccination (unvaccinated) period. The study identifies safety signals for spinal cord inflammation across all COVID-19 vaccine platforms- viral vector or mRNA. The authors recommended that, “physicians should exercise caution regarding the possibility of ATM following vaccination, enabling early diagnosis and appropriate management.”

Incident SARS-CoV-2 Infection among mRNA-Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Nursing Home Residents
In this non-peer reviewed commentary to NEJM pushing the importance of covid-19 vaccination, nursing home patients see same drop in infection fatality rate over same timeline, whether vaccinated or not. Alleged drop in mortality is not statistically significant and is a product of fewer cases. Author’s summary ascribes all positive movement epidemiologically to vaccination, masking, and infection control measures.

06/01/2025Japanese scientists published a recent study showing new evidence of COV-19 mRNA vaccine spike protein persisting in cerebral arteries of 43.8% of haemorrhagic stroke patients up to 17 months post-vaccination with absence of infection, expressing concerns about vaccine biodistribution and long-term safety.
